PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

VP of Software Development, ComCept Solutions
July 2002 – Present

  • At ComCept I took control of the previously outsourced software development by hiring and training a development staff, then designing and implementing processes for the design, development, testing and releasing of all ComCept's software product offerings and custom development.
  • I immediately stabilized ComCept's existing legacy code base by debugging and rewriting code in SQL Server 2000, traditional ASP, extensive use of XML and tremendously rich DHTML with behaviors (HTC's).
  • I designed and developed ComCept's next generation of their flagship product, ComCept .Net, creating a multi-tier, distributed component-based architecture in Microsoft .Net, C#, ASP.NET, Smart Client Windows Forms, SQL Server 2000 and Crystal Reports. ComCept .Net remains under active development and new functionality is released weekly under my carefully designed release procedures.
  • I designed and managed the development of special projects associated with ComCept .Net, including B2B purchasing collaboration tools between our customers and their suppliers, an extranet portal giving our customers' clientele real-time access to our customers' ordering system, an accounting integration function between ComCept .Net and QuickBooks and a robust, scalable and customizable reporting solution on the web. All projects were designed and written in the latest Microsoft domain of tools.
  • I managed a team of software developers and testers, coordinating their efforts and balancing their skill-sets against current needs. I also served as internal consultant and mentor to all developers on all programming and design-related issues. I was also responsible for driving the gathering of business requirements and acting as liaison between executive management and our development efforts.
  • I frequently served as technical evangelist for ComCept's high-profile partnership building efforts in meetings with Fortune 1000 principal companies within our industry.

Software Development Consultant, Intelligent Design Corporation
December 1998 - July 2002

  • SIMCOM International Holdings (11 months): I was a consultant to SIMCOM, managing the entire technology department. I designed the architecture and built their supplier relationship management online application from scratch, using SQL Server 2000, Visual Basic Enterprise, XML, ASP and IIS 5. I hired and managed a development team of five (5) full-time employees and several contractors, and maintained strategic relationships between customers and SIMCOM. Additionally, I managed all aspects of technology-related issues for SIMCOM, including web hosting, Internet connectivity, hardware specifications and purchases, networking and all third-party technology vendor relationships.
  • GA Communications (6 months): I was a consultant to GA Communications (formerly Graphics Atlanta), in the maintenance and redesign of ADsembly, their web-based advertisement editing and previewing tool. I stabilized and corrected the existing system using ASP on IIS, Microsoft Access 2000 and SQL Server 6.5 and 7.0. I designed the upcoming new version of the application from the ground up using UML, C#, ADO.NET, SQL Server 2000, and XML on a Windows 2000 Server. Additionally, I have automated several critical data processes for GA using DTS and stored procedures, as well as streamlining and performance-boosting a customized search engine for one of GA's web-hosted clients in a storefront application.
  • PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP (17 months): I was Consultant to PwC in the development of a client/server ERP Documentation and Review tools, using Visual Basic Enterprise and SQL Server. I built COM objects at multiple levels of the architecture to be used as the data and metadata services, business logic services and code-supporting services. I designed and built a generic user interface using ActiveX documents and XML for metadata and language-specific text storage. The system was built to scale across multiple tiers, and was designed to grow, as more business objects were required. I wrote code across all levels within the application, as well as stored procedures, triggers and DTS scripts for data exporting. I played a key role in the design, development, testing and documenting of the entire system.
  • Travel, Inc (12 months): I served as lead developer, and internal consultant at Travel Incorporated. I mentored three developers in component-based development techniques using Visual Basic Enterprise and SQL Server. I converted a monolithic-designed code base to a component-based application by separating business services into separate COM objects using VB. I instructed the use of and administered a SourceSafe code database, and implemented a client/server intranet distribution strategy. I created an intranet web-based search engine using ASP, IIS and reusing COM objects I wrote in VB for the client/server applications. I consulted with executive management on business requirements for software development, thoroughly documented and implemented the changes.
  • Independently: I built an online nutrition search engine using ASP and Microsoft Access 97. I also enhanced a data-entry and reporting system for Cox Communications using ASP and Microsoft Access 97. Additionally, I authored a discussion forum application not unlike O'Reilly WebBoard using ASP and SQL Server, and created COM objects in Visual Basic as data providers for ASP pages for Business Host, Inc. Furthermore, I implemented a full shopping cart in ASP and Access 97, on a site I created, host and actively maintain.

Senior Software Developer, Firstwave
April, 1997 – July 1998

  • At Firstwave I assisted in design and development of a component-based web-deployed Sales Force Automation application. The three-tier application was written in Visual Basic using RDO against an Access and SQL Server database.
  • I designed and developed ActiveX controls and other COM components, and integrated our application with Office 97 components using the Office 97 component object model.
  • I created coding and exception-handling standards for the development team, and participated in semi-monthly code reviews with all team members.
  • I created ASP pages that served as hosts for ActiveX Controls I wrote in Visual Basic, integrating my controls with the browser object model through the use of client-side Java script and VB script.
  • One of my projects was to create metadata designers, notably a UI screen designer using VB and the Win32 API.

Contract Software Developer, Matrix Resources
January, 1997 - March, 1997

  • I assisted in the design and development of an Insurance Claims Processing system using Visual Basic, RDO and SQL Server. I was responsible for gathering requirements and creating functional specifications documents before beginning development.
  • Additionally, I built a specialized insurance claims viewer using Visual Basic, ActiveX controls, RDO and Access 95. This viewer was a satellite application build to supplement the main application development at the client site.
  • I was responsible for building data access components to be shared across multiple projects, and recommended the component architecture for the main claims processing application.
  • With Matrix, I scored second-highest in their Visual BASIC competency testing history, ensuring quick placement at client sites.

Software Developer, Peachtree Software
March, 1993 - December, 1996

  • I was a full-life-cycle software developer at Peachtree. Duties included gathering requirements for new features and fixes, creating detailed design documents for them and implementing them using Microsoft Visual Basic and Faircom’s CTree database. I was also involved with Technical Support and Usability efforts within Peachtree.
  • Additionally, I collaborated closely with QA, and maintained a source code control database using PVCS, TLib and eventually Visual SourceSafe.
  • I was the sole developer responsible for development of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Invoicing programs.
  • I also instigated and facilitated the move to Visual BASIC in Peachtree’s software development.
